The aim of this course is to teach pilotage, navigation, seamanship and boat handling to the standard required to safely skipper a small cruising yacht by day, in tidal waters with which the student is familiar. As a minimum pre-course experience, the student should have spent 5 days on a yacht, covered 100 sea miles and spent 4 night hours on watch at sea. Knowledge of basic navigation and sailing ability is also assumed.
Candidates should ensure, that prior to starting this course, their standard of navigation is equal to the Day Skipper Shorebased Course and their practical sailing ability is better than that of the Competent Crew practical course.
The course is conducted over a five-day period, normally beginning on Monday morning and complete by 1000hrs on Saturday.
