The aim of this course is to teach the skills and techniques required to skipper a yacht safely on coastal and offshore passages by day and night. Because JSASTC conduct the practical course followed by the Certificate of Competence examination, the minimum pre-course experience should be 20 days onboard a yacht, 400 sea miles and 12 night hours. At least 2 of the days should have been spent as skipper.
Candidates should ensure that, prior to starting this course, their standard of navigation is equal to the Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Shorebased Course and their practical sailing ability is that of the Day Skipper practical course.
The course is conducted over a five-day period, normally returning to JSASTC on Friday afternoon. The examiner will embark and conduct the examination over the weekend. The process is normally complete by mid-Sunday afternoon.
Prior to the examination, candidates should hold Short Range (VHF) Radio and First Aid qualifications.
Duration: 6 Days
